Alarm.com Offers Location-Based Thermostat Automation and Video Recording through Geo-Services

April 04, 2013

Vienna, VA – April 4, 2013 – Alarm.com, the leading provider of interactive security and connected home services, today announced key enhancements to its Geo-Services offering, including location-based thermostat automation and video recording options.

With the latest Geo-Services offering, homeowners can now use their location as an input to make automatic adjustments at home. They can set their thermostats to automatically adjust to an energy saving mode when they leave home, and to adjust to a more comfortable setting when they are on their way back home. This new functionality makes it easier than ever to increase energy savings, even if the homeowner forgets to change the thermostat or deviates from their predefined thermostat schedule.

With Alarm.com Geo-Services, homeowners can simply create a "geo-fence" and then add personalized automation and notification rules based on their phone's location. Homeowners can choose to enable this functionality on their iPhone or Android phone via the Alarm.com mobile app, and then create a rule that adjusts the thermostat when they enter or exit the geo-fence around their home. The service is also smart enough to recognize that multiple people may live in the home, and the rule can be created to only adjust if everyone is away.

In addition to the new thermostat functionality, homeowners also have increased control over their video recording schedules. Using Geo-Services, it's now possible to pause certain video recording rules or schedules when they are at home. This allows them to get the security benefit of video monitoring and also increase privacy by preventing unwanted recordings if, for example, they decide to work from home one day. Like the geo-based Arming feature, these most recent Geo-Services features have been introduced as free enhancements for Alarm.com Interactive Services subscribers.

"Alarm.com is focused on adding features that work automatically to provide greater value, without the homeowner having to remember to take extra steps. Our expansion of location-based technology allows the system to be extremely personalized, reacting in real-time to the behavior of the individuals it serves," said Rebecca Davenport, director of product management, Alarm.com. "Using location as another input to intelligently make adjustments in the home is a natural extension of the platform. We are excited to continue evolving this technology and to layer it into additional features in the future to make our service more useful every day."

Alarm.com first released its Geo-Services offering in 2012 with the introduction of a location-based enhancement to its popular Arming Reminder feature that lets customers receive an email, text or push notification reminder if they leave their home geo-fence and the system is still disarmed. With the latest
features, Geo-Services technology continues to expand to enhance other components of the Alarm.com platform, including energy management and video services. For additional information on Alarm.com Geo-Services, visit www.alarm.com.
